This is as good as it gets!
One of my FAVORITE places to go in the DTLA area. Their galbitang is to die for! While the wait is almost always 45-60min long, it is absolutely worth it! If you want to beat the line, try going an hour before the lunch rush or around 5pm.
I've heard all the rage about the galbijjim, but I just can't help but order the galbitang! One of these days... -

AYCE Korean BBQ was what my boyfriend and I had in mind when we found this restaurant unexpectedly after finding out my favorite KBBQ spot had a wait time of 2 hours. We're so glad we found this place and we are not sorry one bit!
Many people, including myself, cannot fathom how we can spend $60-70 on one entree of food (the galbi jjim). Galbi jjim is Korean braised short rib. This was our first time trying a galbi jjim as well and the only galbi (short rib) we've ever had were thinly sliced pieces at Korean BBQ. The galbi in this dish were humongous! This is definitely one of those dishes that words will never do justice. You'd have to try it yourself to understand.
What comes in the dish? The galbi, potatoes, carrots, onions, and a smaller portion of rice cake pieces in the dish. The meat fell right off the bone. There were so much flavors from the amazing combination of spices... Savory, sweetness, spicy, steaming hot, all in one pan. The potato slices were thinly sliced and you'd think they would fall apart from how sizzling hot the pan was right? Wrong. The timing through which they put the potatoes in to cook must have been perfect because the consistency of the potato slices were perfectly cooked and held it's shape. The meal is served with rice and side dishes (your choice of white or brown rice). **You can choose to add cheese on top of your dish and if you choose to add cheese, your serve will melt the cheese on your dish in front of you at your table.
Lastly, service. I'm sad to say, the docked star was for service. I want to put emphasis more on the owner of the restaurant rather than the servers. The servers (only 2 running front of the house), were constantly on the run. It was SO busy. Yes, the restaurant is on the smaller side, but they would truly benefit from 1 more server to make everything run smoother and so that their existing servers now can provide better service to their customers. The nature of the food includes some interaction (such as melting the cheese, constantly refilling drinks and side dishes, and not to mention, hosting duties including seating customers and managing the wait list). As a result of the shortage of staff, our cups were empty for long periods of time, side dishes were not refilled in a timely manner as requested, we had to order outside before being seated, and our servers walked away from us 2 words before the end of our sentences/questions each time.
For a smoother dining experience, it's an easy fix. Your servers are breaking their backs for a restaurant that is thriving in business but can use some improvement, starting with management decisions. -

Great taste and excellent service. Sun Nong Dan is definitely among the most renowned restaurants in Los Angeles, and we were lucky that there weren't too many people waiting at the time we visit.
The server were very sophisticated and professional, and the food was served in a really large portion that even we have 4 ppl, we can barely finish it all. The taste is unique, unlike most Korean cuisines you've ever tasted. I would say winter is the best season to visit cuz there won't be a cozier thing than having a large bowl of beef soup with cheese and spicy ribs in cold December in Los Angeles.
Worth a try, and I would definitely come back. -

This place is efficient af. If I were to own a business... this would be it #goals. Amazed at the forever line even though it goes by pretty fast. Had their galbijjim and oxtail soup. Def felt like I could've gone without the oxtail soup (bland) but loved the jalapeño onion sauce it came with.
Went ham on the galbijjim but felt like it could've been more tender. Loved the rice cakes and potatoes that came with the dish. Also... the cheese and fire #solit! -

The Galbi Jjim is what most people come here for. This place surprisingly operates 24/7, and has a quick waiting time.
The sides aren't plentiful, but the ones that do come out are very flavorful and high quality.
The galbi jjim comes with two red bean rice for the medium. You choose your spice level, and in the dish ifself consists of (very tender)braised short rib, potatoes, onions, rice cakes, carrots!
Cheese is an extra add on, BUT I 100% RECOMMEND YOU TO GET THIS. It makes this dish POP, the torched cheese hits so much differently than just melted cheese.
With four people, we could barely finish a medium pot and we all ended up paying $22 after tax and tip!
I would definitely go back here, it's such a fun and tasty family style dish. I only wish they had more sides as I would love a huger variety - but other than that, 100% recommend!
